Pulau Ubin Part 3

Coastal Boardwalk
This coastal boardwalk allows you to observe the various habitats found along the shore without getting wet, but I did not spot anything there probably because we reached there during high tide.

Mangrove Boardwalk
This Mangrove Boardwalk takes you into the mangroves, starting from the seaward side and then looping into back mangroves.

I dare not to walk on the grille.

Wah... Scary...

Peace...

Resting @ shelter

Mangroves - The roots will be fully covered by water during hide tide.

Jejawi Tower

If you want to enjoy the view of Chek Jawa, climb up to this Jejawi Tower. But the max load is 20 person only. I felt the Tower was actually shaking, so scary!!

Found this on top of the tower. They should have put this below the tower.

I donno the name of this habitat - 4 leg fish?

Pulau Ubin - Part 2

First Stop - Lunch
We ordered this Deep Fried Baby Squid - SG$8.00

Donno what to drink, ordered 'anything'

After lunch, headed to one of the bicycle shop. There was a big $2 sign which caught our attention and which made us walked in.

Who knows $2 is for this...

Rented this bicycle for SG$4.00. Very difficult to control lor (maybe because of the gear). If you want a better bicycle, I suggest that you take the SG$8.00 or SG$10.00 one.

On the way to Chek Jawa Wetlands

Can really feel the nature here... we saw wild boar, monkey, big birds...

After 1 hour of bicycle ride (3.5km), we reached Chek Jawa Information counter.

Toilet!! Look nice but very dirty!

House No.1
This charming cottage was built in the 1930s by the then Chief Surveyor, Longdon Williams, as a holiday retreat. One of the most interesting features of this building is its fireplace, as it is probably the only working fireplace left in Singapore.

Posting in front of House number 1.

Pulau Ubin - Part 1

06.09.2008
Visited Pulau Ubin with Chloe.
Info: Pulau Ubin - The last 'kampung' (village) in Singapore. Pulau Ubin is a great day trip spent walking or cycling through rustic roads under swaying coconut palms, exploring shady trails in overgrown rubber plantations, checking out secluded beaches and flourishing mangroves.

How to get there? Take a bumboat from Changi Jetty (walking distance from Changi Village bus interchange).

On the bumboat... 12 passengers per bumboat. SG$2.50 one way per person.

The boat is kinda 'old', isn't it?

View from the boat

Nice view + Wonderful weather...

Some chalets (built on Pulau Singapura, but facing Pulau U
bin)

After 15 minutes of boat ride. We reached Pulau Ubin!

Look familiar? Pulau Ketam??? No, this is Pulau Ubin - The last rural corner of Singapore.

View from Pulau Ubin Jetty... Sunny afternoon

Yes, Pulau Ubin is very near to Changi Airport. That's why you can see planes.

For those who can read chinese, read this News. It probably happened on the same day of our trip. A women died in a fatal cycling accident as she was coming downhill. So scary...

More photos on the next post, stay tuned!

Aching all over ...

Back from Pulau Ubin.
Aching all over...
I got a tan, I applied sun-block twice!!! But still... sigh...

I have never been so tired in my life!
Cycling for 5-6 hours under the hot sun with frequent uphill downhill slopes...
I was feeling 'half dead" after reaching home that day.

When I was having my dinner that night, I got headache, then I felt it like difficult to breath. I knew I cannot take it anymore! I need rest! Fall asleep around 9.15pm, and woke up the next morning around 10.00a.m!!! Feeling much much better on the next day after 12++ hours of sleep.

Note: I left my camera's cable in KL. Unable to transfer my photos to my computer. Will upload my photos as soon as I get the cable from my colleague.

Weekend in SG...

Friday!!!

This weekend I will be staying in Singapore, but I know my soul will be in KL.

Plan to Pulau Bintan has been canceled because most of the hotels are fully booked. The staff of the travel agency asked us to pay deposit, and give them one working day to confirm our hotel reservation. If the hotel rooms are fully booked, they will give us our money back in 10 working days by cheque or change to another tour. I decided not to take the risk. Two days ago, there was a report about fake flight tickets are being issued from one of the travel agency in People's Park Centre (where our travel agency located).

My colleague was being cheated 2 years ago by one of the travel agencies in People's Park Complex. She paid SG$2000++ for a Hong Kong trip (with 3 other family members). One day before departure she still did not get her flight tickets. She went to the travel agency to collect her tickets, then the owner of the travel agency lied to her that the tickets can only be collected in the airport on the next day. OK, she collected tickets reached HK with her family members, but there was no tour guide, no hotel rooms were booked for them. The worst thing was, they do not have credit cards! My colleague called the owner of the Travel Agency for HK airport, and asked what happen, the owner said:" Wait, your tour guide is on his way". After 6 hours of waiting, my colleague called again, and the owner apologize and told her the truth on what actually had happened. (The owner did not make any bookings for her. No flight tickets, no tour guide, and no hotel rooms). My colleague and her family members had to spend all the cash they have on Hotel. The 5days 4 nights they did not do anything but to stay in the Hotel only. After they came back from HK, my colleague sued that Travel Agency, unfortunately she got back 50% of refund only (but better than nothing). So, be careful if you are planning to sign up for any tours.

I am busy finding informations about Pulau Ubin and Kusu Island now. Chloe and I will be spending our weekend there. I hope it will not rain this weekend, so that we can enjoy our day trips.
